My Journey to Understanding The Holocaust
In Spring 2008, I attended an NC Holocaust Council Workshop at Temple Emanuel in Greensboro, NC. The workshop was very informative, and I heard from a Historian from UNCG, a Rabbi, and a Holocaust survivor. Hearing what these speakers had to say made me want to learn more about all aspects of the Holocaust and become a Holocaust Educator.
In November 2009, I was fortunate enough to attend the NCCAT (North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching) trip to Washington, D.C. to study and explore the USHMM (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). The trip was a time of great discovery, but left me with more questions than answers. Although I know much more about the Holocaust, I still have many questions about why it happened and how we might stop this type of "ethnic cleansing" in the world. Through studying the Jewish Holocaust, I have seen the very best in human behavior and interaction and the very worst. We must work diligently to educate everyone about the genocide of the Holocaust, as well as, many other genocides that happened before the Jewish Holocaust and after.
